Operations Manager
Our client, an established international freight forwarding company with a strong market
presence across Europe, is currently looking for an Operations Manager for their office in
Zurich. Our client specializes in delivering reliable and efficient global logistics solutions
across air, sea, road, and customs services, maintaining high standards of service,
compliance, and operational excellence.
What to expect as an Operations Manager?
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing end-to-end freight operations, ensuring
efficient shipment execution, cost control, and high service quality. This role involves managing
operational teams, optimizing processes, and ensuring compliance with Swiss and
international logistics regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee daily air, sea, road, and customs operations
- Ensure correct shipment execution, documentation, and billing
- Monitor shipment and file profitability, margins, and operational costs
- Control carrier rates, subcontractor invoices, and prevent operational leakage
- Ensure accurate and timely invoicing
Exception & Customer Management
- Manage exception handling including delays, claims, and customs issues
- Handle key operational customer escalations
- Maintain service standards for key accounts
Team Leadership
- Manage and supervise operations staff
- Allocate workloads and ensure process discipline
- Train staff on company procedures and systems when required
- Conduct performance reviews and monitor KPIs
- Drive staff productivity and reduce turnover
Financial & Reporting Responsibilities
- Monitor file profitability and operational cost ratios
- Prepare monthly job reports, financial results, and wage reports
- Report directly to the Regional Director
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with Swiss customs regulations, security standards, DGR, and internal company policies
- Support sales with operational feasibility and pricing input
- Continuously improve operational workflows and SOPs
- Reduce manual errors and operational delays
Key Performace Indicators (KPIS)
- Operational KPIs: On-time shipment execution, File completion accuracy
- Financial KPIs: File profitability, Operational cost ratios, Billing accuracy and timeliness
- Team KPIs: Staff productivity. Employee turnover
What's expected
- Proven experience in freight forwarding operations (air, sea, road, customs)
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Solid understanding of financial control within logistics operations
- Knowledge of Swiss customs regulations and compliance standards (including DGR)
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Strong communication skills and customer-oriented mindset
