Sales Manager

We are currently looking for a Sales Manager to join a growing freight forwarding branch in Rotterdam. The local team currently consists of two operational employees and this role will be key in driving business growth, acquiring new clients and developing the branch commercially.
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially driven professional with a background in freight forwarding who understands both operations and sales and is familiar with the local Dutch market.

What to expect as a Sales Manager?

Business Development & Sales

  • Actively acquire new clients and business opportunities within the Dutch market
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing customers (farming)
  • Identify market opportunities and contribute to business strategy development
  • Represent the company in client meetings and negotiations

 

Freight Forwarding & Operations Alignment

  • Ensure smooth handling of customer requests in cooperation with the operations team
  • Oversee forwarding processes and ensure high service quality
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external partners (carriers, truckers, suppliers)
  • Support operational activities when needed, leveraging prior forwarding experience

 

Negotiation & Supplier Management

  • Negotiate rates and conditions with suppliers (carriers, shipping lines, transport providers)
  • Identify and onboard suitable partners for ongoing and new business

 

Performance & Branch Development

  • Take responsibility for commercial performance, budget and P&L contribution
  • Monitor KPIs, customer satisfaction and service quality
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve profitability and processes

 

What's expected

  • Proven experience in freight forwarding (air and/or ocean) – ideally with an operational background (e.g. dispatcher / forwarder)
  • Strong commercial mindset with experience in sales or business development
  • Good understanding of the Dutch logistics market and local business environment
  • Ability to work independently and build business from the ground up
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Fluent in English and Dutch
